“Most men lead lives of quiet desperation and die with their song still inside them” Perhaps Thoreau's quote isn't 100% accurate but does capture something which is backed by research. Namely, whilst men don’t suffer more psychological disorders than women overall, the way men suffer them can be more destructive and problematic as they tend to externalise their suffering in the form of violence, substance abuse, anger, aggression etc.
