Low cost sessions available – Limited spaces The decision to begin therapy often comes from a felt sense that something needs to shift — that there’s more to understand about yourself, your relationships, or your past, and the ways in which it shapes your present. I see therapy as a space to pause, reflect, and make meaning of those experiences in a way that feels safe and supported. I am a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario currently completing my MEd in Counselling Psychology at OISE, University of Toronto. Before moving to Canada, I practiced as a counsellor in Pakistan for several years, working with clients with experiences of anxiety, abandonment, abuse, and interpersonal and relationship difficulties. My approach is relational and integrative, grounded in psychodynamic and person-centered perspectives. As a recent immigrant, I understand how transitions, identity and belonging can shape our sense of self and our relationships. My work is grounded in offering you a compassionate, non-judgmental, and confidential space—one where you can explore your story and inner world, understand patterns that no longer serve you, and work toward healing and change at your own pace. I am also deeply interested in working with the impacts of systemic and institutional discrimination, violence and trauma, and with the experiences of immigration – whether direct, generational or familial. Outside of my therapeutic work, I’m an oral historian and published author and have documented narratives of war, genocide, sexual violence and displacement in South Asia. My work has culminated in three books, including the award-winning The Footprints of Partition: Narratives of Four Generations of Pakistanis and Indians (HarperCollins Publishers 2015). I hold an MA in Anthropology from the University of Toronto and a BA in International Development from McGill University. I’m currently based in Toronto, where I am the co-founder of Qissa, a storytelling platform that centers immigrant stories and voices. My work both inside the therapy room and outside with communities deepens my respect for the ways in which we carry and transform our stories and I would be honoured to work with you to explore your story and life experiences.
