About

Hello, I am Dr Rima Lamba, I set up an independent practice called Blue River Psychology. We are based in London, Hertfordshire, Cambridge and we work with people online, making therapy highly accessible for people across the country and internationally. I am an intersectional feminist counselling psychologist with an interest in the unique experiences of women from a variety of ethnic and cultural backgrounds, but especially women from South Asian cultural backgrounds. As a practitioner, my interests lie in intersectional identities, stories, and how structural power dynamics within cultures impact and shape the lives of South Asian women. I work closely with women to explore the impact of patriarchy, race/racism, culture, and ethnicity. Helping South Asian women unpack the narratives and discourses that exist around them and how they become internalised and create emotional conflict is an important part of my work. I also work with clients to explore the stories that exist intergenerationally and historically.  Learning what happened before we came to be, is as much part of the journey as the current story. So, exploring stories of collective and community traumas in your ancestral heritage and how that maybe taking hold now in your life, is also something we can explore. Women who come to see me are those who maybe struggling with difficulties around identity, low self-esteem, depression, struggles with motherhood, postnatal depression, attachment and bonding difficulties in motherhood, relationship difficulties, body image, disordered eating (binge eating), loss, grief, life transitions, career issues and leadership issues, history of domestic or childhood abuse and variations of trauma. This is not an exhaustive list and you can always reach out to see how we might be able to work together with your specific life story. As a practitioner, I draw on different therapeutic modalities to help you develop insight into your experiences, including – psychodynamic psychotherapy, attachment theory, black feminist concepts, compassion-focussed therapy (CFT), systemic and narrative approaches. I have also trained in couples work, which is informed by emotionally focussed therapy, attachment, narrative and systemic models. The exciting aspect of the Practice is that it is not just me! The Blue River Psychology practice has expanded to include Associate Therapists and Psychologists who also identify as South Asian females! As a Collective we are passionate about the needs of women straddling intersectional identities. The Associate Collective specialises in adult mental health, individual therapy and couples work. We all provide a warm, non-judgemental, and safe space to help you explore difficulties. As client-driven practitioners, we draw on various skills and research to formulate an understanding of the psychological difficulties you may be experiencing. As you can probably tell, we enjoy working relationally to help clients feel empowered in overcom
